Information only — not technical or safety advice
Content on this website (the “Site”) is provided for general information and booking. It is not a substitute for an on-site assessment by qualified, licensed professionals. Do not rely on web content for diagnosis, repair, installation, or safety decisions. Always follow manufacturer instructions, codes, and local utility guidance.
Emergencies (gas leak, fire, shock, life safety)
If you smell or suspect natural gas, leave the area immediately. From outside, call 911 and your gas utility’s emergency line (e.g., Enbridge Gas 1-866-763-5427, 24/7). Do not use switches/phones near a suspected leak and do not try to find the source.
Carbon monoxide (CO) alarms & safety
Ontario requires CO alarms in homes with fuel-burning appliances, fireplaces or attached garages; alarms should be installed adjacent to sleeping areas and maintained per code. Treat CO alarms as a critical life-safety device and replace per the manufacturer’s timeframe. For symptoms of CO exposure, evacuate and call 911.
Gas and electrical work in Ontario — licensed personnel only
- Gas: Installation, service, testing and use of fuel-fired appliances and piping in Ontario are regulated; work must comply with O. Reg. 212/01 (Gaseous Fuels) and be performed by properly certified technicians/registered contractors.
- Electrical: Where electrical work requires a permit/notification, it must be performed by or under an ECRA/ESA-Licensed Electrical Contractor (LEC) — the recognised way to ensure the work is safe and legal.

Safety content can change
Standards, regulations and utility procedures change over time. We aim to keep information current, but you should always verify with the relevant authority or utility (e.g., TSSA for fuels, ESA for electrical, local fire services).
Health & property risks of DIY work
DIY gas or electrical work can cause fire, explosion, shock, or carbon-monoxide hazards. In Ontario, regulated tasks must be performed by licensed/certified professionals and inspected when required. Hire qualified trades for regulated work.
